A selector needs a detent and spring, which come in a lower parts kit. Anti-walk pins keep the trigger and hammer pins fixed under forced reset cycling.

If you shoot from both shoulders, run drills with the support hand, or are left-handed, choose an ambidextrous selector. Right-hand-only shooters can run a single-side lever.
Installing a new selector means removing the pistol grip to access the detent and spring. Have a lower parts kit or spare detent on hand in case one launches.
