Your barrel sets the gas length. Find the combo that matches the gas port position on your barrel and you are one roll pin away from a working upper.
For barrels roughly 7.5" to 10.5". Our pistol-length gas tube and low profile block combo includes a hardened steel .750" block, stainless tube, roll pin, screws and an allen wrench. Fits under any free-float handguard.
The proven standard for 10.5" to 16" barrels. The carbine-length combo uses a 9.75" stainless gas tube with a matte black hardened steel .750" low profile block. Includes screws and wrench.
Mid-length gas softens recoil on 16" and 18" 5.56 barrels, and rifle-length runs smoothest on 20" and longer. Both combos are available in the same low profile .750" block format.
Once the gas system is on, the rest of the upper comes together fast. Pair it with a bolt carrier group, charging handle and handguard, and tune cycling with the right buffer weight.
Direct impingement is simple: a small hole in the barrel bleeds gas into a tube that pushes the bolt carrier rearward. Each part in the chain has a job.
Two measurements and one handguard check are all you need.
Measure from the barrel's gas port to the receiver face, or check the barrel listing. Our barrels list gas length on every product. A tube that is the wrong length will not reach the carrier key.
Our blocks fit .750" barrel journals, the most common size. They are not designed for .625" pencil barrels, .875" or .936" bull barrels. Measure the journal under the block position with calipers.
Low profile blocks sit under free-float handguards. If you are keeping a front sight base or a two-piece drop-in handguard, confirm the block height clears it.
If brass ejects far forward and the bolt slams, the rifle is over-gassed; add buffer weight. If it fails to lock back or short-strokes, it is under-gassed; check for gas leaks at the block and confirm port alignment. Forced reset triggers benefit from a heavier buffer regardless.
Suppressors add back pressure. A pistol or carbine gas system with a heavy buffer keeps a suppressed build running without an adjustable block.

No. The blocks in this category are cut for .750" barrel journals only. They are not designed for pencil-profile .625" barrels or bull barrels.
No. Any correctly sized gas system works. What matters is buffer weight; a Super Safety or forced reset trigger needs an H2, H3 or the Odin Works HFRT buffer to slow the carrier so the reset engages. See AR-15 triggers.
Dimpling gives the set screws a positive seat and prevents the block from walking under recoil. It is recommended but not required if the screws are torqued and secured with thread locker.
