Choosing an AR-10 Upper

Pattern, purpose and length.

Lower Pattern

These uppers are DPMS pattern. Confirm your lower is DPMS / LR-308 compatible. Armalite-pattern lowers will not mate.

Semi-Auto or Bolt-Action

Semi-auto uppers are the standard rifle. Bolt-action style uppers remove the gas system for a quieter suppressed rifle, better accuracy from a rigid heavy barrel, and legal advantages in some jurisdictions.

Barrel Length

10.5" builds a pistol or SBR. 16" is the rifle minimum. 18" balances handling and velocity; 20" and 22" push .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor to their potential.

Buffer

A .308 semi-auto upper needs an AR-10 buffer and spring matched to the carrier. Bolt-action uppers do not cycle and are less sensitive to buffer weight.

  • Are your AR-10 uppers DPMS or Armalite pattern?

    DPMS pattern. They mate to DPMS and LR-308 pattern lowers, which are the majority of AR-10 lowers on the market.

  • What is included with a complete upper?

    The upper receiver, barrel, bolt carrier group, charging handle or bolt handle, handguard, gas system on semi-auto models, and a muzzle device. Add a lower and magazine to shoot.

  • What is a bolt-action style AR-10 upper?

    An upper with a right-side bolt handle and no gas system. You cycle it by hand on a standard AR-10 lower. It gives bolt-gun accuracy and quiet suppressed shooting in an AR chassis.

  • Do I need a special buffer for a .308 upper?

    Semi-auto .308 uppers need an AR-10 buffer and spring matched to the carrier length. Our A2 stock kit includes a rifle buffer; carbine tubes need an AR-10 carbine buffer.

  • Do AR-10 uppers require an FFL?

    Complete uppers ship directly to most addresses. Shipments to CA, WA, CT, NJ, New York City or Chicago require an FFL address.
