A forced reset trigger that actually drops in

The Partisan Triggers Disruptor is a complete cassette-style AR-15 forced reset trigger that installs in a standard mil-spec lower with no cutting, no fitting, and no permanent modification to the receiver.

Most forced reset designs ask you to fit parts, tune engagement, or live with an inconsistent break. The Disruptor is built as one sealed unit with tool steel and 4140 chromoly wear surfaces, so the geometry that matters is set at the factory and stays set. What you get at the range is a crisp, repeatable 3.75 to 4.1 pound break with fast forced reset for quicker follow-up shots.

The 3-position selector gives you Safe, Semi-Automatic, and Enhanced Forced Reset Semi-Automatic, so the rifle behaves like a standard AR when you want it to and switches to forced reset when you want that instead. No second lower, no swapping parts at the bench.

Why shooters pick the Disruptor

  • True drop-in cassette. Self-contained unit, no receiver modification, anti-walk pins included.
  • 3-position selector. Safe / Semi / Enhanced Forced Reset Semi-Automatic in one selector.
  • Consistent 3.75 to 4.1 lb break. Same feel shot to shot, not a mushy reset-driven pull.
  • Tool steel and 4140 chromoly wear surfaces. The parts that see load are the parts that are hardened.
  • 6,000+ rounds of documented testing under a course of fire derived from USMC M27 IAR evaluation criteria.
  • Fits most AR-15 and AR-pattern lowers using standard mil-spec components.

What your rifle needs for the forced reset to work

A forced reset trigger depends on the bolt carrier and buffer to time correctly. Two components are not optional, and getting either one wrong is the cause of nearly every function complaint on this category of trigger.

1. A full-auto profile bolt carrier group

Required. A semi-auto profile carrier does not have the geometry to drive the reset. If your rifle is running a semi-auto carrier, you need to change it before the Disruptor will function.

2. The correct buffer weight

For a carbine receiver extension with a 16-inch or shorter barrel, an H2 buffer is the minimum and an H3 is recommended. For a 20-inch rifle with an A2 stock, use a standard rifle buffer. Buffer weight controls cycling speed, which controls reset timing.

Running a carbine-length build with a standard carbine buffer and a semi-auto carrier? Budget for all three parts. The trigger alone will not give you the result you are after.

What is in the box

  • Partisan Disruptor drop-in forced reset trigger cassette
  • 3-position safety selector
  • Anti-walk trigger pins

Installation

The Disruptor installs like any drop-in cassette trigger: separate the receivers, remove your existing trigger group and selector, seat the cassette, fit the included selector and anti-walk pins, and reassemble. No permanent modification to the lower is needed, and most builders finish it in under fifteen minutes with common AR tools.

Follow the manufacturer's current instructions rather than a third-party writeup, and perform a full function check on an unloaded rifle before live fire.

If the trigger will not reset, is doubling, or is failing to cycle, the cause is almost always buffer weight, carrier profile, or an incompletely seated selector. Check those three before contacting support.

Frequently asked questions

  • Under federal law, yes. Following the Fifth Circuit decision in Rare Breed Triggers LLC v. ATF and the May 2025 Department of Justice settlement, forced reset triggers are not classified as machine guns under the National Firearms Act, so no registration or tax stamp is required. State law is independent of federal classification: roughly 14 states plus the District of Columbia prohibit these devices under their own statutes, and litigation challenging the federal settlement is ongoing. Confirm current law in your state before ordering.

  • Not under current federal law. Federal courts have held that a forced reset trigger fires one round per function of the trigger, which is the statutory test for a machine gun. Several states define prohibited devices more broadly, using language about rate of fire or simulating automatic fire, and forced reset triggers are banned under those state definitions regardless of the federal position.

  • Yes. A full-auto profile bolt carrier group is required for the Disruptor to function correctly in an AR-15. A semi-auto profile carrier does not have the geometry to drive the reset and will not work. If your rifle is currently running a semi-auto carrier, plan on replacing it as part of the install.

  • For a carbine receiver extension with a 16-inch or shorter barrel, an H2 buffer is the minimum and an H3 is recommended. For a 20-inch rifle with an A2 stock, use a standard rifle buffer. Buffer weight directly affects cycling speed and reset timing, which is why it is the first thing to check on any function issue.

  • No. The Disruptor is a self-contained cassette that installs in a standard mil-spec AR-15 lower with no cutting, fitting, or permanent modification. Anti-walk pins are included, and most builders complete the install in under fifteen minutes with common AR tools.

  • 3.75 to 4.1 pounds, consistent across both semi-automatic and forced reset modes. The cassette design sets the engagement geometry at the factory, so the break stays repeatable shot to shot rather than drifting as the parts wear in.

  • The Disruptor has been tested beyond 6,000 rounds under a course of fire derived from USMC M27 IAR evaluation criteria. Wear surfaces are tool steel and 4140 chromoly, so the components carrying load under repeated cycling are the hardened ones.

  • The Disruptor is designed for most AR-15 and AR-pattern lower receivers using standard mil-spec components. Non-standard or proprietary lowers with altered trigger pocket dimensions may not accept a cassette-style trigger. If you are running anything other than a mil-spec lower, confirm compatibility before ordering, since all sales are final.

  • No. All sales of the Partisan Triggers Disruptor are final, and no returns or exchanges are accepted. Confirm compatibility with your bolt carrier group, buffer, and lower receiver, and confirm legality in your jurisdiction, before ordering.
